Dr Smorsli’s Transmission From Space

We’d been waiting for a mix off our friend Samir (AKA Dr Smorsli) for quite some time, and he came very correct with this one… He’s one of the residents for our party, and is a supremely talented DJ who touches all the areas of house that me and Fab don’t quite get to. EX-PPG resident, and probably Sheffield’s best warm-up DJ, he recorded this in lieu of being able to play a party for a while. We asked him some questions to get a little background on the mix:

TFS003 is a steamy one from our boy Smorsli

We’d been waiting for a mix off our friend Samir (AKA Dr Smorsli) for quite some time, and he came very correct with this one… He’s one of the residents for our party, and is a supremely talented DJ who touches all the areas of house that me and Fab don’t quite get to. EX-PPG resident, and probably Sheffield’s best warm-up DJ, he recorded this in lieu of being able to play a party for a while. We asked him some questions to get a little bakground on the mix:

  • Can you tell us a little about your setup/how and where you recorded this mix?

It was recorded on two Technics 1200s, two Pioneer CDJ900s and an Allen & Heath XONE:92 at Penguin HQ (pictured).

  • Was there a specific plan for the mix beforehand?

The plan was to make something cheerful and happy to counter all the negative things happening around us! I used it as an opportunity to dig for a lot of new music and ended up with a couple of stacks & folders to choose from, other than that it was recorded off the cuff.

  • How have you been keeping busy through the lockdown? Any top isolation tips?

I've had lots of writing to do for work. Some of it should be published soon, which is something I've been working towards for years and I'm very excited for. I am really fortunate to live with some absolute QTs and we're able to share music, mix, cook and play board games together (special shouts to Jungle Speed, Taskmaster and Sport-or-not-a-sport). Trying to keep in touch with friends and family has been helpful, as well as getting some time in the sun <3

  • Anything exciting coming up once the lockdown’s lifted?

I'm moving to the US for a postdoc! Hopefully going to find time to drive over to Chicago to pick out some heaters for when I get back hehe. Fingers crossed that lockdown lifts in time so I can give some big hugs to everyone before I go...
